Full Description
An excavation was carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link works at Pepper Hill following the discovery of the Roman cemetery. The earliest feature located was a prone inhumation burial, carbon dated to 350-40 cal BC. It was the first in a sequence of burials in the area, all of which were undated. They may therefore belong to the same period or merely be coincidental undated Late Iron Age or Roman burials. (1)
