Full Description
In 2007 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a programme of works. Late Iron Age pottery was found in three deposits which were probably colluvial or fluvial in nature, therefore indicating activity of this period in the area. A substantial Roman water tank was also found. This feature was 12m long and more than 8m wide, extending beyond the limits of the excavation. Peat had formed within the feature and medieval material was found in the upper layers of this, including a leather shoe. What the tank was for is unclear. (1-2)
