Full Description

TR 3575 6430 Medieval well shaft In the spring of 1988 cliff erosion at a point c80 m S of the well (TR 36 SE 35) revealed the shaft of a similar well with sandstone slablining visible at the top and an infill layer of sandstone and flint boulders at a depth of 10 m from the surface. The well shaft is only 4m from a small cave entrance leading northward into a complex system of tunnels, reputedly smugglers' caves. (1)
