Full Description

During archaeological investigations at Land between Haine Road and Stirling Way in Ramsgate in 2007/2008, parts of a Roman field system were uncovered. The features comprised a series of field-boundary ditches, set on a broadly east-west to north-south alignment that extended c0.15km north of Striling way, forming sub rectangular fields. These features were irregular in width (up to a maximum of 1.3m, but normally c1m or less), and did not exceed c 0.4m in depth. Some had clearly been entirely denuded in places. These features are clearly later than the Later Prehistoric field system which was also identified during these excavations, but otherwise there is little in the way of dating evidence, the pottery recovered included sherds from a course greyware and a Dressel 20 amphora.
