Full Description
Cropmark of a rectilinear enclosure, south of Birchington, visible on the 2007 and 2009 Google Earth images.
Covers an area c.50m NE-SW x c.40m NW-SE, with the east side being stepped to create an entrance. Possible linear features around the entrance on the 2007 Google Earth image (1).
Cropmark of a possible medieval rectilinear settlement enclosure (described by the previous authority), within Quex Park, visible on the 2007 and 2009 Google Earth images, NMR 3115/160 02-JUL-1986 and Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007 . A similar enclosure (TR 36 NW 493) on the same alignment lies 50m to the south, and a third 20m north, suggesting a linear settlement. The visible remains measure c.45.5m NE -SW and 40m across the wider stepped-out northern part and 29m across the narrower southern half. It is sub-divided NW-SE across the wider section and there are hints of ditch and two large dark internal pits or maculae, possibly indicative of internal buildings .This site was mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024 (2-3)
