Full Description
Cropmark of a curvilinear feature, south of Birchington, visible on the 2007 Google Earth image.
Travels c.40m NW-SE then turns and runs for c.40m NE-SW, with a possible 14m gap in the eastern side. Possibly part of a larger sub-rectangular enclosure extending into the adjacent field (1).
Cropmark of a possible medieval rectilinear settlement enclosure with internal pits within quex Park visible aerial photographs :Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007 and NMR 3115/160 02-JUL-1986 . Only the north-eastern and south-eastern (which has a possible entrance mid-way) sides linked by a single curving corner are visible, with the start of the SE corner also visible. The western half of the enclosure is truncated by the western boundary of Quex Park. A similar enclosure (TR 36 NW 491) on the same alignment lies 50m to the north, and a third 20m north of that, suggesting a linear settlement. The visible remains measure c.53 NE -SW This site was mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024 (2-3).
