Summary

A possible Roman burial may have been indicated by the discovery of a complete pottery flagon and Samian dish at Minster Sewage Works. These finds were dated to the 1st-2nd century AD and were thought to have come from a burial contained in the lower part of an amphora. A Romano-British cremation cemetery was previously found at this location during the construction of the sewage works. This was recorded in the Isle of Thanet Sites and Monuments Archive but no further information is given.

Full Description

TR 309631. At Minster sewage works a complete pottery flagon and Samian dish, possibly from a burial contained in the lower part of an amphora, were found during contractor's work. The finds are tentatively dated to 1st-2nd century AD. Excavation planned for site. (1) TR 309631. [Sited to nearest 50 m] Romano-British remains. Site no 185. (2) TR 309631. A Romano-British cremation cemetery was found here during the construction of the sewage works. (3) additional reference (4-5)
