Full Description

Filmers windmill

A post mill built in the early 19th century. Owned from 1850 by Benjamin Filmer, whose name it takes. A boiler and steam engine were added in 1859 along with a chimney. The mill ceased work in 1919. Although the main part of the mill has been demolished, the mill house remains, used as a care home (Millfields). A nearby public house, the Windmill, also commemorates the former flour mill. (1)

The mill is shown on the OS drawings of 1797/8.
