Summary

Roman pottery and a complete early 2nd century urn containing calcined bones were found in a gravel pit at Horns Cross. The urn is now in Maidstone museum.

Full Description

[Marginal] Several Roman Potsherds and a complete early 2nd c. urn containing calcined bones, were found in a gravel pit of the Stone Court Ballast Coy., at Horns Cross, Greenhithe. The urn (Frere's 'Ashford' type) is now in Maidstone Museum. (1-2) The Stone Court Ballast Co. (now defunct) owned and worked several pits in the Horns Cross area(a). All are now disused and overgrown. No further information. (3)
