Full Description
A Samian base, form 33, found during dredging, and part of a tegula from a spoil heap, together with a fragment of human cranium, RO. potsherds and animal bones, were found 27.4.1957, at the workings of the Ham River Grit Co., Darenth, and donated to Dartford Museum in the same month, by J.N. Carreck, of "Old Stones", Elmstead Glade, Chislehurst, Kent. The findspot at TQ 56117079 was indicated by Mr. Bunyan, pit foreman, and confirmed by Mr.Carreck, who added that the finds came from peaty alluvium and could not have been in situ, but probably derived from the Roman villa site, which is 200.0m. upstream. (TQ 57 SE 3.) [See also TQ 57 SE 70]. (1)
