Building record TQ 83 SE 31 - Site of Rolvenden station, Rolvenden
Summary
Rolvenden station was built for the Rother Valley (later Kent & East Sussex Railway) and was opened in 1900. Originally the terminal of the line from Robertsbridge, it became a through station when the line was extended to Tenterden in 1903. The station is a simple single storey building clad in corrugated iron with a platform canopy. It was closed in 1955 and reopened as a private steam railway in 1974. Locomotive shed and workshops were formerly located across the track opposite the station building. A lean to shed along one side held the railway's workshops. After closure of the line in the 1950s the land opposite the station was sold and the buildings demolished.
