Full Description
[TQ 572 714] On 15th January 1979 the writer was called in to investigate a large hole that had appeared in the rear garden of 18 Langlands Drive, Lanesend, Darenth. The hole was about two metres in diameter and in a dangerous state. The shaft, probably the top of a denehole, is one of many known in this area. The most likely theory is that these shafts were dug for the extraction of chalk to be used for liming fields. (1)
