Full Description
Hop pickers huts at Hardlots, north of Pearson's Green. Built sometime between 1843 and 1875 (nothing is visible on the Tithe map of 1843 but a single structure is visible on the first edition Ordnance Survey map). The site has several stages of modification with various hop pickers huts added after 1875. The second edition OS map (1897 – 1900) shows the initial structure has been extended and a further three buildings added to the site. The third edition of the OS map (1907 – 1923) shows a fifth structure has been built and by the time of the fourth edition OS (1929 – 1952) two further buildings are visible. The complex of seven structures is visible at their full extent on the aerial photographs of the 1940s. However, by the 1990 aerial photos the huts on the northern boundary have been demolished. Four structures survive into the present.
