Full Description
Former site of hop pickers huts, south east of Greenfields Farm. Built sometime between 1843 and 1875 (nothing is visible on the Tithe map of 1843 but a single structure is visible on the first edition Ordnance Survey map). The site has several stages of modification with various hop pickers huts added after 1875. The second edition OS map (1897 - 1900) shows the original structure was extended and a second built to the south east (also adjacent to the field boundary). There were additional buildings, probably also hoppers huts, added within the enclosure demonstrating that the site continued to expand over the course of the twentieth century. The earlier nineteenth century hoppers huts as well as the twentieth century additions are visible on the aerial photographs of the 1940s but all the huts appear to have been demolished sometime after 1947.
