Full Description
In 2004 Oxford Archaeology carried out an excavation. Foundations of three early 20th century buildings were found, each had been divided into two. These were Sinkers' huts, built to house workers engaged in digging the shafts. A sinking rig is known to have been on site in October 1923. A photo from 1925 shows the huts. By 1933 three of the buildings had been demolished and three had been retained, probably as stores. (1)
