Full Description

A dam was constructed in this location to create a mill pond. A mill was probably built here in the medieval period, potentially pre-dating the main house. The earliest documentary record of a mill dates to 1583. A mill is shown on an estate map of 1692 but not on an estate map of 1803 [nor on the OS drawings of 1798 and 1799]. The post medieval mill therefore probably went out of use in the 18th century. (1)
