In 2005 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an excavation the the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. A sunken featured building was found. It consisted of a rectangular pit 3m x 2.5m with the long axis aligned north-east to south-west and a post hole at either end. Sherds of organic tempered pottery were found in the backfill of the feature. A small dump of flinty soil may have acted as a pad for a quern fragment which was found in a fill nearby. The building is thought to date to the period AD 550-700. (1-2)
