Full Description

In 2008 Archaeology South-East carried out a survey. A hedgerow was recorded: A mixed hedgerow of blackthorn and hawthorn with occasional ash and fruit trees. Two small oaks are present on the line of the hedge to the north of the footpath. It has an approximate NNE – SSW alignment. The hedge has a length of 70m and an approximate width of 3m.

As the hedgerow follows a boundary shown on the Tithe Map of 1840 it therefore forms part of a pre-1845 field system and is protected under the Hedgerows Regulations 1997. (1)

The field boundary is shown on the OS drawings of 1798; the field system may therefore be of 18th century or earlier date.
