Summary

St stephen's church - Parish church constructed during the 12th century with 13th and 15th century additions. It is constructed of flint and rubble with a tile roof. Simple plan of nave, chancel and South porch.In 1187, Archbishop Baldwin began building a chapel and college for 40 secular priests, some of whom were settled here in 1188. Due to objections from the prior and monks of Canterbury Cathedral, the Archbishop had to have the buildings demolished in 1191
