Full Description

In 2006 Archaeology South-East carried out an excavation. A ditched enclosure was found in the northeast of the site. Only part of the circuit was exposed, consisting of two sections with a gap between them. There could have been a bank associated with the ditch. Disarticulated human bones were found in the eastern terminus of the ditch. It is possible that the ditch represents a boundary to the Anglo-Saxon cemetery, given the absence of any burials of this period south of the ditch. No dating evidence was recovered though. A possible grave was found north of the ditch. A rectangular pit was found to contain a few fragments of human bone. It is not clear what date this feature was or whether it was a grave. Two undated post holes were also found. (1)
