Full Description
A Second World War air raid shelter, one of seven on Amherst Hill. The shelter is built of concrete, is partially subterraneous and covered by a mound of earth. It is a round-vaulted chamber about 5m long and 2m high and about 2m at its widest. There are two entrances with toilet cubicles in each. Some of the toilets retained their original galvanized buckets with seats. There was no sign of graffiti of any date. A child's leather sandle was found in the shelter. It could date from the original period of use. Surveyed in 2006. (1)
