Summary

Second World War lined trench air raid shelter in the centre of the playing field of Knockhall School, Eynsford Road, Greenhithe. Built in 1939/40 it was probably for local residents as well as for school children. Assumed in commission until 1945. The site appears to have been made good post war but its buried structure may survive. There was a surface shelter in the NW corner of the field.

Full Description

Second World War concrete-lined trench air raid shelter of uncertain plan in the centre of the playing field of Knockhall School, Eynsford Road, Greenhithe, Kent. It was dug in September, 1939 and was completed with linings by January, 1940. This was probably for local residents as well as for school children. It is assumed that it remained in commission until 1945. The site appears to have been made good post-war but its buried structure may survive. There was a surface shelter in the NW corner of the field (PUID 10355) (1)
