Full Description
Second World War Civil Defence Control Centre in concrete underground rooms constructed next to (and perhaps connecting with) Knockhall Lodge in Knockhall Road, Greenhithe, Kent. Knockhall Lodge itself was also used for various civil defence purposes, including lecture rooms, stores, committee room. There was also a gas chamber for training in the use of gas masks against the possibility of chemical attack. The Control Centre was decommissioned in 1945 but resumed in reserve for a time during the early part of the Cold War. The site was later obliterated for housing. (1)
