Monument record TQ 57 SE 344 - King Edward Road Second World War tunnel air raid shelter, Stone, Dartford, Kent
Summary
Second World War brick-lined tunnel public shelter under London Road and entered from or near King Edward Road, Stone, Dartford, Kent. It had places for 50 people, later with provision for another 100 in additional compartments. The tunnel presumably originated to join chalk quarries on either side of London Road and was in existence before 1939, perhaps remaining in commission for shelter purposes until 1945. The tunnel may still exist.
