Full Description

A quarry pit and a cave were observed in the section of the modern chalk pit in 1996. They were surveyed and excavated over a number of years up to 2007. At the west end of the quarry pit the hillwash that had been deposited contained 136 flints and sherds of pottery. The flintwork was of Late Mesolithic to Late Bronze Age date. The pottery dated from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The infilled shaft of the Roman cave contained similar worked flints. (1)
