Full Description

During the Second World War the Royal Marines Siege Regiment established a camp at Townsend Farm, St Margaret's at Cliffe. The Marines provided the personnel for the railway guns and the fixed batteries 'Winnie', 'Pooh' and 'Bruce'. After the war the Marines left and the buildings were used for a time as emergency accommodation. The buildings are clearly visible on the 1940s aerial photographs although the Marines also used other buildings in the area(1)
