Full Description

In 2013 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a watching brief. A post-medieval dump was found. This consisted of up to 1.65m of material dumped into a hollow, probably a dug feature but of unknown date or function. The material included building debris, domestic waste and pottery dated c. AD 1500-1550. It is thought that this represents a dump dug into the back of the town wall rampart, used to dispose of material from older buildings pulled down in the 16th century. (1)
