Summary

Three sides of the moat survive; the S.E. is water-filled and the N.W. and N.E. are dry; the coarse of the fourth side, on the S.W. is marked by a ditch of the ornamental pond. Beyond the N.W. arm are two well preserved rectangular fishponds, one dry, the other marshy.

Full Description

[TQ 48255045] Hendon Manor [NAT] Moat [NAT] (1) Hendon, formerly called Hethenden, was a Royal Manor until 1518. The farmhouse is of Tudor date, with extensive later additions, and restoration. Three sides of the moat survive; the S.E. is water-filled and the N.W. and N.E. are dry; the coarse of the fourth side, on the S.W. is marked by a ditch of the ornamental pond. Beyond the N.W. arm are two well preserved rectangular fishponds, one dry, the other marshy. Published 1/2500 survey revised (2) TQ 483504. Hendon Manor, Ide Hill, Sundridge.
