Full Description
A silted up palaeochannel was investigated in Area 2 of an archaeological excavation carried out on land off Monkton road in Minster, Thanet. This feature had previously been recorded during the evaluation stage of the project as a large ditch. The palaeochannel contained a single fill which contained struck flint, animal bone and two sherds of flint tempered prehistoric pottery. A very low level of charred plant remains was also recovered from the samples, this there is a high probability that these were intrusive. The size of the feature suggests a silted up watercourse of some considerable size, although the fact that only one edge was revealed limits the conclusions which can be drawn. It is likely to be related to the Wantsum channel. (information summarised from sources) (1)
