Full Description
In 2011 Kent Underground Research Group investigated some subsidence outside No. 30 Whitehill Road, Gravesend. A denehole shaft was found, 7.7m deep to the top of debris filling the chamber. The shaft had been capped possibly in the 17th century and then again in the Victorian period by brick-built domes. It was thought that the debris in the shaft may represent a Victorian attempt to fill the void when the earlier brick dome failed. (1)
