Full Description
In 2011 subsidence at Fort Borstal was investigated by the Kent Underground Research Group. A chalkwell was found. It was probably encountered during the digging of the fort ditch and used to dump construction debris into. By the time of the Second World War occupation of the site, the hole had reopened and was again sealed. It was probably of 18th or 19th century date. (1)
