Monument record TR 23 NE 225 - Site of No. 1 gun, Hougham Battery
Summary
During the Second World War a coastal artillery battery was built at Hougham. No. 1 gun was a 8 inch gun. The gun was dual purpose being both for anti-aircraft and coastal artillery purposes. The site today consists of the life shaft that connected the back of the gun emplacement to the magazines beneath. More of the site probably survives beneath the dumped spoil from the Channel Tunnel excavations.
