Full Description
In 2013 an excavation was a carried out in Whitehill Wood. As part of this work a brief walkover survey was undertaken of the area. A mound was found in the woodland, c.10-12m across and less than c.1m high. There was no obvious ring ditch observed. The mound was positioned between two footpaths. To the north of the mound there was a parish boundary stone with an H (for Lower Hardres) on the west face and a B (for Bridge) on the east face. It is likely that the mound is a round barrow, probably of Bronze Age date. A possible barrow is recorded for Whitehill Wood, on the western side (TR 15 SE 25), but could not be relocated. This may therefore be the 'lost' barrow, or a second example. No further information.
