Full Description

In 2009/10 Archaeology South-East carried out a strip, map and sample excavation. A ring ditch was found on the west facing slope of the hill brow. The ring ditch was 18m in diameter, between 1.2m and 1.6m wide and survived to a depth of 0.5m. No internal features survived. A crouched inhumation had been inserted into the ring ditch. A second crouched burial was found 100m to the east of the ring ditch. A small piece of copper alloy was found with the second burial but there was otherwise no dating evidence of either burial. They are thought to be of Bronze Age date, the first probably being inserted into the ring ditch when it was still a visible feature. Two unurned cremations were found 20m to the west of the ring ditch. (1)
