Full Description
In 2000/1 the Oxford Archaeological Unit carried out a targeted watching brief (a strip, map and sample excavation) ahead of CTRL works. Two closely associated ring ditches were found. One could have been incomplete or truncated by later activity. They appear to have cut through deposits of Mesolithic and Neolithic date as material from these two periods was found in the fills of the ring ditches. One of the ring ditches was nearly 20m across, with a possible causeway on the western side. It may represent either a hengiform monument or the modification/enlargement of an existing ring ditch. What function these monuments served is not clear. (1-2)
