Full Description
In 2006 Wessex Archaeology carried out an excavation at Kingsborough Manor. A dogleg shaped ditch and straight ditch were uncovered on the site and averaged 1m wide. They are likely to be part of a field system or boundary. It is possible they formed part of a hexagonal boundary following and reusing earlier Bronze Age ditches in the area.
Sherds of pottery, ceramic building materials and tile fragments were found, dated as Romano-British. Portions of the ditches align with tree holes, suggesting their course was dictated by trees. The ditches also respect a tree hole where Anglo-Saxon pottery was found, so this ditch could also be a Roman feature. An undated ditch was also found on the site. (1)
