Summary

During (or possibly before) the First World War the Royal Navy constructed an airfield at Hawkhill Down. The site was heavily re-used during the Second World War and it is possible that some of the surviving structures are of First World War date.

Full Description

During (or possibly before) the First World War the Royal Navy constructed an airfield at Hawkhill Down. The site was heavily re-used during the Second World War and it is possible that some of the surviving structures are of First World War date.(1)

RNAS Walmer, an out-station of RNAS Dover was located on Hawkshill Downs, but was abandoned by 1919 and nothing now survives at the site which is marked by a memorial to lost pilots erected shortly after the war. (2)
