Full Description
An archaeological strip, map and sample investigation produced remains mostly from the Iron Age, as well as a middle Bronze Age ditch and a Neolithic flint scatter; a single probable Upper Palaeolithic flint blade was also discovered in the nothern part of the site. Weighing 42g and 92 mm long, it is highly patinated. It would appear to be more typical of Upper Palaeolithic blade production than Mesolithic or Neolithic, and possibly from the terminal Upper Palaeolithic Long blade industry. This is not known from the Ashford region, though has been found close to the Thames estuary and at Riverdale, Canterbury; alternatively, it may represent a stray and unusually large early Mesolithic blade.
