Full Description
Bishopstone [= Oldhaven] Gap, Palaeolithic artefact finds (mostly handaxes) from beach, between gap and headland to its west where Coastguard Station used to be in late 19th C, where cliff-top deposits mapped as Head Gravel. Location visited as part of Stour Palaeolithic Project in May 2013 and May 2014 (see associated Events) and observed that rapid erosion taking place, revealing possible fluvial terrace deposits below Head Gravel and Brickearth.
