Full Description

Flint scatter found at TR 3462 4520 during field walking in 1995, to northwest of West Cliffe church with 6 complete Palaeolithic handaxes, 3 fragmentary handaxes and c. 200 struck flint debitage thought also to be Palaeolithic. More general scatter in this area includes Later Prehistoric flint artefacts. (1)

The site has been further investigated by Durham University with a programme of survey, trial trenching and small scale excavation taking place between 2002 and 2004. It is unpublished except for a paper on the luminescence dating of the sediment. (2)
