Full Description

A Rigdens/Fremlins/Whitbread inn.

Not much is known about the history of this inn. Stapleton's Directory listed it in 1838. In 1846 it was mentioned in the Licensing List as No. 8 St. Peter's Place. In 1844 it was purchased by Rigdens, the brewers, for £650 (a considerable sum in those days).

In 1851 there is a Police Report about Elizabeth Forbes for serving afer hours.

The Oddfellows Arms closed in 1971 and it is now a private house. A surviving ground floor window however, is inscribed 'Rigdens Fine Ale'.
