Full Description
A Fremlin/Whitbread House inn.
King William IV only reigned from 1830-1837 and his achievements were not exactly newsworthy. It is interesting therefore, to have an inn in Canterbury named after this monarch.
It is on the Licensing List of 1846 with innkeeper James Wood, and John May was in charge in 1848. The inn was sometimes called King William IV and sometimes just William IV.
The inn is no longer listed in Directories dated 1961 and later, thus the inn must have closed sometime during the 1950's.
