Full Description

The Canterbury UAD states that this was the inn on the west side of the brewery with steps up to the front door. The name was taken from the green at the rear of the property adjoining the Dane John. Clearly it was an inn by 1792 when an innkeeper appears in records and again in 1795.

Innkeepers: 1792 Luke Ash; 1795 William Underdown.

In 1806 the name of the inn was changed to the 'Toby Fillpot'. It was closed about 1865.

Innkeepers: 1806 William Underdown; 1812 Edward Folwell; 1813 Richard Copingham; 1814 Stephen Fagg; 1815 James Seath;
1829 Henry Hill; 1832 Richard Randall; 1846 Maria Randall (Spinster).

The building was seriously damaged in the blitz by enemy bombing in 1942, the site was purchased by the City Corporation, the remains of the building demolished and the site was incorporated into the large car park now on-site.
