Full Description

The Canterbury UAD states that little information has been forthcoming regarding the Red Lion Inn, High Street.

The site was purchased by the City in 1408, and rebuilt soon after. The new building appears to have been an inn that occupied the High Street frontage, surviving into the mid-nineteenth century, where Guildhall Street is now located. The Red Lion was closed and demolished in the mid 19th century to create a new link between the High Street and Palace Street, that was the creation of Guildhall Street.
