Full Description

Enderby records an inn by the name of the Tiger Inn as being in Whitehorse Lane then known as Jewry Lane all the way to Stour Street. Although its exact site is unkown an inn is shown on the north side of Jewry Lane on the 1st edition O. S. map of 1874 and it is possible that this was the site of the Tiger Inn although this remains purely conjectural.

Enderby states that from Somner we learn that William Bennet, Mayor 1450, 'gave unto the City his Tenements beside Jury Lane in St. Mary Bredman's Parish. Those two stone houses. I take it (Enderby) they are, the one the Tigra, the other the Whitehorse standing by that Lane, very ancient both, and known to belong unto the City at this day' The White Horse at this time was on the site of Goulden's Music Shop, No. 36 High Street. The whole lane from the High street to Stour Street was called Jury Lane. The exact site of the Tiger has not been traced (Enderby).

No inn of the name Tiger is listed in Pigot's Directory of 1828-29 or of 1840.
