Full Description

The Canterbury UAD states that The Star Brewery, along with malting's, was established over the old City Ditch on the west side of Broad Street prior to 1851 by George Beer. Steven's Directory of 1882 shows it still as Star Brewery, Broad Street, George Beer, as does Pikes Local Blue Book of 1897-98. It also had stables and a store at in Lower Bridge Street.

In 1922 the company merged with Rigden & Co. of Faversham and formed George Beer & Rigden Ltd. The brewery, along with any associated maltings, was closed down soon after the merger and then demolished. It is now a large car-park.
