Full Description
The Canterbury UAD states that the precise location of this inn is uncertain. It is not listed in Pigot's Directory of 1840 thus is of later foundation. Its first known licence was recorded in 1846 when Frederick Linom was the innkeeper. In 1862 its third innkeeper, Thomas Fist, was convicted of selling liquor 'out of hours' (1).
It is listed as the Eagle, White Horse Lane (but with no street number) in the Canterbury Directory of 1878 when Joseph Dalby is given as the innkeeper. It does not appear in the 1882 Directory which suggests that it had closed by that time.
Unknown, 1878, Canterbury Directory (Article in serial). SKE30109.
