Full Description
This represents part of the Archbishop's Palace Precinct wall built c. 1220 along the Palace Street frontage to the western limits of the complex. Initially it formed the length of walling from the Great Hall, Great Kitchen to a Gate leading to the Stables on the Borough. The Great Kitchen was destroyed by fire in 1543 and subsequently a new kitchen, stores and office range was built, between 1560 and 1563, along the boundary wall with internal partions springing off of it, one of which is represented here too.
