Full Description

A 'Lady Chapel' was added to the east end of the Abbey Church in the 15th century (c. 1460), this was place on the site of the former ancient chapel of St. Augustine, where the early archbishop's were buried. At this altar was said the daily mass for 'the church. It had north and south side aisles and a central chapel. To the exterior were deep slim buttresses along the north and south sides and at the NE and SE corners. It was probably highly decorated, with fan or even pendant vaults, etc.

In the early 16th century, the Lady Chapel was made considerably smaller with the removal of the north and south side aisles by Abbot John Dygon (1497-1510).
