Full Description
A Middle Bronze Age barrow was discovered during excavations associated with the construction of the East Kent Access routeway in Thanet (Zone 21). It was one of several which has been discovered along the chalk ridge but is smaller and of a later date than the other examples.
The ring ditch had a diameter of 6m and was 1.2m in width. The artefactual assemblage from the ditch was fairly small and contained iron age pottery in its upper fills. In the centre of the ring ditch was an unaccompanied inhumation burial which provided a radio carbon date of 1410-1200 cal BC. Thereby placing it in the Middle Bronze Age.
